Happiness is an elusive emotion that is hard to quantify. The big problems are that it is not a linear response, is subjective in nature and is difficult to objectively measure. Spirituality is also greatly variable and is an importantly woven into happiness.
The biggest factor in happiness is an active and alert mind. Even the dullest person needs to be stimulated so as not to merely exist in an uneventful fog. Learning new things and playing mind challenging games lights up the brain (including literally in brain scans) and keeps it happy. The extra benefit of this learning and brain stimulation is that is has been shown to avert dementia in a person’s advancing years. It doesn’t take all that much, even just being socially active (you must think to interact, the ultimate game) has been shown to have far reaching benefits at averting dementia. The emphasis of this blog site is to explore avenues that have been shown to be a benefit in increasing happiness.
This learnINGblog is penultimately dedicated to our learning that happy and poor are not synonymous. Happiness is not linear and so once you have your object of desire, or even some of it, just adding more adds continuously less happiness. Rising from the lower class to the middle class brings great happiness and security but after that wealth becomes less and less of a factor in happiness. Poor but happy is an excuse for not being able to advance your station in life. There is no shortage of people who have been both rich and poor and they all agree that being rich is better.
ING is the Viking god of proactivity and fertility which are factors that feed the roots of happiness. The diamond lozenge shape is the ancient traditional Rune glyph that represents Ing. The other important factor that relates to happiness is spirituality which will likewise be explored.

Our large human forebrain is what make us special, gives us consciousness of self the way no other animal comes even near to possessing, and rightly gives rise to the adage: “the mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Equally powerful and in need of training is what Freud called the Id, the unconscious part of the mind. I use the old Celtic word for spirit, Awen, which held the same unconscious mind meaning for them. (The Celts understood it as a “black box” concept.)

What I wouldnt give to have a debate with you about this. You just say so many things that come from out of nowhere that Im pretty certain I would have a good shot.
