How the Christians Stole Christmas

Now that the Christmas season is upon us I keep reading stories in newspapers and magazines about what are the poor, neglected atheists to do about feeling left out? What’s the problem? Christmas is the holiday invented by Christians because they felt left out of the popular winter solstice celebrations. It is an indisputable historical fact that Jesus was not born at the winter solstice, or December 25 as a close approximation. The Bible makes no mention of the time of year but shepherds would not be out tending their flocks during the middle of cold winter, the sheep would be safely harbored and tucked away in protective enclosures. Various sources speculate that Jesus was actually born in the fall or spring. Just as now many atheists try to appease the larger Christian community by celebrating a holiday at Christmas; in about the fourth century CE it was the early Christians who tried to appease the larger pagan population by celebrating the birth of Christ on the last day of Saturnalia, December 25. (They didn’t want converts to feel left out of a great celebration.) What goes around, comes around! The New England Puritans as good Christians even went so far as to have Christmas banned and its observance made illegal in Massachusetts between 1659 and 1681 because of its pagan origins. Try Googling the Internet and you will find a plethora of information on how the Christians absconded a perfectly good rite of the passage of a year. Christians are the Grinch that stole the real holiday.
Personally I would like to see the holiday returned to its Western European roots of Yuletide, a season for family. Happiness can be following your own path even if it is different from those around you. Having a path is what makes the difference. If you would still like to celebrate a birth then I have heard that it would be appropriate to celebrate a truly stupendous birth, that of the Big Bang start of our universe thirteen billion years ago. December 25 as the date has as much going for it as the true date of the birth of Jesus.

  9. I do not know about you people but for me the appearance of a blog is very important, almost as much as the article itself. On top of that I’m a real mug for YouTube videos… or, as a matter of fact, ANY media content whatsoever.

Consequently, anytime I browse a similar write-up I only wish the owner embeds some internet video somehow.

At the present, a many blog owners definitely don’t… I can’t imagine why?…

I suppose this may be different upon the subject matter… however I still believe that it would be suitable for virtually any kind of content, because it would always be enjoyable to see a warm and friendly face or perhaps hear a voice when first landing.

Anyway, I guess I’m a trifle off topic with this?.. Right… It looks like that! Ha, Ha, Ha…

Thank you for enriching the Internet with this article!
